Double Sided Vintage Original French Advertising - DOUBONNET - 1927

More Views

Poster realized in 1924 by Jean Carlu (1900-1997). Dubonnet is a sweet, wine-based aperitif. It is a blend of fortified wine, herbs, spices and quinine. Dubonnet was first sold in 1846 by Joseph Dubonnet, in response to a competition run by the French Government to find a way of persuading French Foreign Legionnaires in North Africa to drink quinine. Quinine combats malaria but is very bitter. The very fashionable lady, in full regalia, with gloves, pearl collar and cloche hat definitely epitomizes the roaring 20’s.
