This whimsical poster was realized by the famous French poster designer, Edouard Bernard, to advertise the "Creme Eclipse", a brand for Polish products, manufactured by the Société Générale des Cirages Français, founded in 1881 in Lyon. Several kinds of polish were available under the name Eclipse to make both shoes and metals shine. The cute boy's shows shine so strong, that they illuminate the advertisement sign.
