A beautiful magazine cover realized for Arts & Labor in 1909 by Marcello Dudovich (1878 – 1962), an Italian painter, illustrator, and poster designer. Together with Leonetto Cappiello, Adolfo Hohenstein, Giovanni Maria Mataloni and Leopoldo Metlicovitz he is considered one of the progenitors of Italian poster design. Ars & Labor was a sophisticated monthly by Casa Ricordi in Milan starting in 1906 before ceasing publication in 1912. The review aimed at a niche readership and was mainly concerned with music, theatre, ballet; it also offered splendid photographic reports on art exhibitions, on the history of fashion and costume, as well as Italian geography.
