More Views

A whimsical poster commissioned by the Loterie Nationale (French national lottery) created in 1933 and realized by Lucien Boucher ca. 1960. Pierre Jacques Étienne Cambronne, later Pierre, Viscount Cambronne (1770-1842), was a General of the French Empire. He fought during the wars of the Revolution and the Napoleonic Era. He was wounded at the Battle of Waterloo. The caption suggests that Cambronne, who managed to escape Waterloo’s hell would have won at the lottery!
