"A La Scala" from "Le Rire" Magazine by Capielleo Balthy et Fordyce a la Scala. An original page from the satirical weekly magazine "Le Rire", Printed in Paris in 1899. Drawn by Leonetto Capielleo (1875-1942). Louise Balthy (1869-1926) was a remarkably talented performer who trained in ballet but broke into show business with comic songs, which secured her an engagement at the Eldorado at the age of 17. At the time Capiello portraits her, she was much in demand as a star of lavish revues and spectacles.
