Rare French Feminists Movement Poster "Musidora" Bretecher

More Views

One of the greatest stars of the French silent cinema, Musidora gained extraordinary fame playing France’s first screen vamp. Her characterizations earned Musidora an amazing fame, and she was embraced enthusiastically by popular audiences as well as by the surrealists who appreciated her subversive androgynous eroticism. In the 1970s feminists began to acknowledge and embrace her achievements as a filmmaker, and in 1973 the Musidora Association was founded. In 1974 the association organized the first Musidora International Festival of Women’s Films. This poster was realized by Claire Brétecher a Frenchcartoonist, known particularly for her portrayals of women and gender issues.
