A whimsical cardboard advertisement  by Jean d'Ylen (1866-1938), the famous French poster designer. D'Ylen was born Jean Paul Beguin and took the pseudon of  d'Ylen in 1912. It was said that since Chéret, the art world had never seen such talent and that Jean d´Ylen was really the master of the modern poster.  D´Ylen had an exclusive contract with Vercasson for about thirty posters. He designed posters for Waterman, Ripolin, Jacquemaire, Shell, Bally and Sandeman´s Port. The Gouttes d´Or d´Alsace (Alsatian drops of gold) was a brand of liquor, available in kirsch, plum or cherry plum flavors.
