A dazzling poster (ca 1890) commissioned by Arista mineral water and actually executed by another artist working from Pal's design and bearing an appropriate "d'après" designation. This alabaster nymph personifies the salutary properties of Arista mineral water, as the water itself rushes forth from the seal-faced fountain to the clamoring throng below. Though virtually identical, some slight differences do exist here, primarily in the face of the goddess figure, the bottle's label and the lettering. Pal (Jean de Paléologue) (1860-1942) produced a wealth of advertising posters, which are most often recognized by his voluptuous female characters selling products. Pal moved to the United States in 1900 where he lived and worked until he died at the age of 82. While in the U.S. he continued to work in the graphic arts as well as moving into the film and animation industries.
