Hans Erni (born in 1909) is a Swiss painter, designer and sculptor, known in particular for illustrating postage stamps, activism, lithographs for the Swiss Red Cross, and participation on the Olympic Committee. Erni created this poster against environmental degradation for the former Swiss water protection association for free and on his own initiative in 1961. It is sinister and impressively intelligent at the same time. The poster triggered a controversy and Erni was criticised that it was reminiscent of his 1954 poster against nuclear war.
