A whimsical poster realized in 1937 by Jean Carlu (1900-1997) in connection with the Arts Ménagers exhibition (Ideal home exhibition) in Paris. This institution, which sought to provide the French with information about all aspects of domestic management, furnishing, and decoration, began life in 1923 as the ‘Salon des Appareils Ménagers’. Jean Carlu was a French graphic designer-artist who worked with one arm as he lost his right arm in a tramway accident at age 18. His fondness for cubism drew him to the Art Déco where he excelled.
