Original Vintage French Ad Poster "Sirop des Vosges" by Jean Carlu 1950

More Views

A whimsical poster realized ca. 1950 by Jean Carlu (1900-1997) at the behest of the Sirop des Vosges, a potion created in France in 1900 by Alexandre Cazé and used against coughing and bronchitis. The Sirop des Vosges was an instant success and eventually ended up being purchased by GlaxoSmithKline, the UK based pharmaceutical giant who stopped its production in 2008. Carlu, one of France’s foremost poster designers, started his career as a professional poster-designer in 1919 as an illustrator, after which he worked at an agency that designed advertisements.
