Visser, son of the timber merchant Tjebbe Visser and Wiepkje Hiemstra, first followed the courses at the Rijksnormaalschool Tick for Teachers and the Rijksnormaalschool for Applied Arts in Amsterdam and then studied at the State Academy of Fine Arts, also in Amsterdam. He was a pupil of Jan Derk Huibers and Ludwig Junger . After ten years in Amsterdam to have worked, he settled in 1907 in the North Holland village of Bergen. [1] He was thus one of the first artists who discovered Mountains as an inspiring place to work. More and more artists would follow his example. They formed the so-called Bergen School . Tjipke Visser designed in 1923 for the cover of the novel Eastward of Louis Couperus . Part of Visser work consists of animal figures, for which he was inspired in Artis .
