More Views

A charming poster, realized by Oge ca. 1900, advertising Dubonnet (Vin Tonique au Quinquina). Dubonnet is a sweet, wine-based aperitif. It is a blend of fortified wine, herbs, spices and quinine. Dubonnet was first sold in 1846 by Joseph Dubonnet, in response to a competition run by the French Government to find a way of persuading French Foreign Legionnaires in North Africa to drink quinine. Quinine combats malaria but is very bitter. Eugène Ogé (1861-1936) was a French poster artist with a unique and playful style. In 1902. he produced one of the best-known anticlerical images of its period La Lanterne. He also made a large number of commercial posters for products. (Wiki)
